Herpetological Collections in the Thailand Natural History Museum as a Valuable Resource for Conservation and Education

พิพิธภัณฑ์ธรรมชาติวิทยา (Thailand Natural History Museum—THNHM) เป็นแหล่งเก็บรวบรวมตัวอย่างของสัตว์ครึ่งบกครึ่งน้ำและสัตว์เลื้อยคลานในประเทศไทยและบริเวณใกล้เคียงมายาวนาน โดยมีตัวอย่างของสัตว์ครึ่งบกครึ่งน้ำจำนวน 173 ชนิด และตัวอย่างของสัตว์เลื้อยคลาน 335 ชนิด  ตัวอย่างที่เก็บรักษามีค่าต่อการนำไปศึกษาเพื่อพัฒนางานวิจัยและเผยแพร่ความรู้ให้แก่ประชาชนทั่วไปได้ ซึ่งความหลากหลายของสัตว์กลุ่มนี้สะท้อนภาพความหลากหลายที่พบในประเทศไทย หลายชนิดมีสถานะเป็นสัตว์คุ้มครองตามพระราชบัญญัติสงวนและคุ้มครองสัตว์ป่า มีสถานะเสี่ยงต่อการสูญพันธุ์ตามบัญชี IUCN Red List และมีการคุ้มครองการค้าสัตว์ระหว่างประเทศ
